This subreddit is not endorsed or sponsored by Apple Inc. I really feel like Facebook started the whole trend of 'We update our app regularly' boilerplate text that appears in place of proper release notes every time a new version is released, but it's spreading like wildfire and more and more developers have adopted this stupid, extremely lazy practice. Expedia seems to be the latest convert: With your travel needs in mind, we're regularly updating our app to make it even better than the award-winning app you're used to! Make sure to download the latest version to take advantage of it all.
THESE ARE NOT RELEASE NOTES. THIS IS IN NO WAY HELPFUL OR USEFUL INFORMATION DESCRIBING THE UPDATES/FIXES IN A NEW SOFTWARE VERSION. I understand that policing content like this would be pretty difficult, but before long I can see every single app in the app store just copying and pasting the same text for every version increment, making the release notes completely useless.
This really needs to be nipped in the bud ASAP. With apps using React Native, the association between updating the 'app' (the iOS binary) and the actual app (the react code that is the actual application) is pretty blurry.
In Facebook's case, they can update the app or roll out new features without updating the iOS app, or they can push out the ability to do something days or weeks before actually doing it. One of our developers was working on an app using React and was talking to a user, who suggested moving a UI element, so he did. The user's UI updated instantly, and he approved. Happy customers in realtime. Obviously it's an awful idea to update an app live while millions of people are using it, but it's a thing which is technically possible now and it's pretty insane.
An app like the Amazon app is a gigantic combination of hundreds of individual packages all owned and maintained by different teams.from the various user-facing modules of the actual app, to underlying libraries used for convenience to avoid re-inventing the wheel, to the assorted models and client packages used for communicating back to the different services the app talks to. These are all constantly updating, and when they update they build into the app's code automatically. Meaning there's always new bug fixes, stability improvements, and minor features to roll out. It's not just the same app being slightly modified and reuploaded simply for the sake of staying at the top of the charts. You can't just release the changelog like that. You have to sanitize it. Without that, there will be everything from largely irrelevant nonsense comments, to unprofessional internal jokes, to statements about preparing for the addition of new secret, unannounced features, and little bits of internal trade secrets.
Poll Results Vainglory Should Be Available For Mac
Nobody is going to spend the time and money sanitizing their commit logs just so that the small handful of curious people who take offense at simplistic update messages can read on and be appeased. Nobody is asking for you to give away the secrets to the entire farm in a handbasket. But something more than 'Bug fixes.' Would be helpful.
If you look at the iOS App Change/Updates that are written by 1Password. They do a really good job. They show direct appreciation for all their fans/customers. The list specific/detailed bug-fixes (including the internal Tracking #).
And they re-iterate how they'll never annoy you for App Reviews and encourage you to continue giving feedback. That's the way it should be done. If all a company does is post a new App update and the changelog says. It basically tells me they don't care.
. Update 3.8 is here!. SISTER SUBREDDITS.

This news of Vainglory going desktop is huge for the game regardless- but a key detail to think about is what it will do beyond just bringing Vainglory to a new platform. Vainglory will now be the only MOBA that is cross platform with PC and mobile. Other MOBAs have their own notable traits- DOTA is extremely complex, LoL is a great spectator sport, Smite has unique gameplay with its third person shooteresque controls, and in the past, Vainglory has looked for its own quality to set it apart from the competition.
It used to be a game built around 3v3, but that didn't serve to make it as popular. As 5v5 has come along, it's tried to set itself apart by being a very good looking game with the best gameplay on iOS and Android- and what's important to note is that SEMC isn't giving that aspect up. It is absolutely going to continue being the best looking and best playing MOBA on mobile- but now it will have even more.
Being purely mobile, let's face it, has always given the game an uphill battle in becoming popular with fans of the MOBA genre familiar with desktop games. But now it will not only be able to enter the field of fully fledged desktop MOBAs (even if it did have the quality to complete with them already), it will have that defining quality to set it apart I the industry- the cross platform. Now its quality won't be the only defining factor to catch the attention of MOBA veterans, it can finally appeal to an entirely new market of players in ways that no other MOBA can. Desktop players can finally play it, and people who have avoided it because it's a mobile game can finally be exposed to it as a full MOBA experience available on mobile platforms as it always should have been recognized as. The cross play capability itself could be an attraction, where people value the ability to play the game on whichever platform is available.
Personally, I think that this is a huge change and advantage for Vainglory.
